A Haven in the City...
Havenwoods is a vibrant diverse community located on the northwest side of Milwaukee. As its name suggests, the community offers the vitality and convenience of urban living in an area accented with natural greenery. Residents find a bit if nature on their own tree-lined streets and in their flowering backyards. Havenwoods State Forest , Wisconsin's only urban forest, offers the ideal setting for afternoon bike rides & family picnics. Those who enjoy sports gather at McGovern Park for a game of basketball, football, or baseball.
Affordable...
The housing stock in Havenwoods was primarily built in the late 1950s and into the 1960s. Heavily influenced by the trend toward suburban housing, the neighborhood features many ranch style and box style homes' styles which make updates easy and affordable.
Home Buying Education Opportunities...
HEDC partners with many of Milwaukee's non-profit home buying
education providers to help homeowners prepare for the purchase
of their first home. Courses can help you examine your income,
spending, and savings, as well as understand the home buying
process and the legal documents required for the transaction.
Not ready to buy a house yet? The home buyer education program
also offers one on one counseling to help you become financially
ready to make the big investment of your first home.
After participating in the program you could be eligible to receive grants toward the down payment and/or closing costs of the purchase. Ask the home buying education counselor to learn about the specific grants they work with.

Neighborhood Stabilization Program
The Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 provided the City of Milwaukee with $9.2 million in federal funding for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) to address foreclosed properties in Milwaukee neighborhoods impacted by the foreclosure crisis. With input from the Milwaukee Foreclosure Partnership Initiative, the Common Council Special Joint Committee on the Redevelopment of Abandoned and Foreclosed Homes, and the community, the City prepared a plan to guide efforts to utilize the $9.2 million in NSP Funding.
