Employer Assisted Home
Ownership Initiative

Havenwoods Economic Development Corporation offers a homeownership incentive to the employees of HEDC business members. Employees have access to homeownership counseling, workshops, and financial assistance for home buying. This program is brought to Havenwoods through a partnership with Select Milwaukee Homeownership Programs.

Assistance with accessing Business Incentives

Milwaukee Redevelopment Authority Tax Exempt Bond Program

  • Federal and State Tax–Exempt industrial revenue bonds can finance land, building acquisition,
    new construction, renovation, and equipment.
  • Limited to manufacturing projects; $10,000,000 per project.
  • Credit enhancement provided by letter–of–credit from borrower’s bank.
  • Fixed interest rates: 4.5% – 5.0%; (6/02) Variable Rates 1.50% – 1.60% (6/02

Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)

  • Subordinated loans for 25%–40% of project cost.
  • Available for equipment, construction, renovation.
  •  6% interest rate.
  • $500,000 maximum loan amount.
  • 10% equity required.

Community Development Zone Tax Credits
For projects in all industrially zoned areas of the City:

  • Non–refundable Wisconsin income tax credit of up to $8,000 for full–time jobs filled by members of
    target groups: W-2, dislocated workers, etc.
  • Non–refundable income tax credit of up to $6,000 for all other new hires.
  • Non–refundable income tax credit of 50% of the cost of environmental remediation.
  • Zones exist for 7 years; credits have carry–forward provisions for 15 years.

Customized Labor Training Grants

  • Training on new technologies and production processes.
  • May be in classroom or on production floor during periods of non–production.
  • Expenses include trainee wages, training materials, trainer costs. Cost of OJT not eligible.
  • Grant of 50% of eligible cost, up to $2,500 per employee.

Technology Zone Tax Credits

  • Tax credits to offset up to three years of Wisconsin sales, income, and property taxes for new or expanding
    businesses engaged in certain high-technology business clusters.
  • Clusters include factory automation, biotechnology, computer hardware and software, medical diagnostics,
    pharmaceuticals, photonics, telecommunications, and others.

GRANT PROGRAMS:

Brownfield Site Assessment Matching Grant Program
Up to $25,000 is available to existing or potential property owners as matching funds for site assessment, confirmatory sampling and remedial action plans for sites located in the City of Milwaukee with a proposed redevelopment project.

Facade Improvement Grants
The City of Milwaukee provides matching grants of 50% or $5,000 to commercial businesses to improve the street facing exterior of commercial buildings . Eligible projects are signage, window treatments, awnings, and historic restoration. More Info
